About Microneedling
Microneedling – also known as collagen induction therapy – is an extremely versatile anti-ageing treatment that can be used to improve a wide variety of cosmetic issues.
Collagen is the protein that holds your body together, forming a scaffold that provides strength and structure to your features and giving a plumped, youthful look to your skin. As your skin ages, your natural repair and rejuvenation mechanisms begin to decline. This starts in your late 20’s, with the amount of collagen in your skin progressively decreasing as you get older.
Microneedling involves the use of tiny needles to penetrate the skin and stimulate your body’s natural collagen and elastin production processes, resulting in smooth, firm, glowing, evenly toned skin. It is a very versatile treatment, commonly used to shrink enlarged pores, treat wrinkles, reduce the appearance of acne scars, and to smooth out and reduce the uneven pigmentation of stretch marks. The Treatment
The Dr Jenni Clinic uses the SkinPen® Precision, a medical grade, state-of-the-art microneedling device that stimulates your skin’s own natural ability to make collagen and elastin. The wonders of self-rejuvenation!
The SkinPen® is used to cover the entire surface of your skin using small motions in continuous lines. It is quick, precise, and is safe for almost every skin type; an initial consultation at The Dr Jenni Clinic can confirm this. Safety features include the use of disposable needles to prevent any risk of cross-contamination between clients and a gold-standard 90 degree working angle on your skin. The depth of needling can also be changed according to the needs of the specific area(s) being treated.

Microneedling with the SkinPen® is a great treatment by itself, but it can also be combined with medical skin peels or injectable treatments for an added benefit.
Does microneedling hurt?
No. Whilst this treatment uses a number of fine needles, you will only feel slight discomfort during your treatment. This is because the needles used are incredibly small and a numbing cream is also applied to the treated area.
What to expect after your treatment
Typically, you may find that your skin is a little red and/or inflamed for 24 – 48 hours after your treatment, and may peel slightly. This is completely normal and isn’t a cause for concern.
You should avoid direct sun exposure for one week, and avoid rigorous exercise and any skin products not provided in your aftercare pack for two days after your treatment to avoid irritation. You can wear makeup again after 24 hours.
How long does it take to see results?
An initial tightening of the skin and reduction of pores can be seen immediately after microneedling treatment. However, you won’t see the final results for four weeks or more after your treatment. This is because whilst collagen production and cell turnover are both accelerated during the procedure, it still takes your body time to produce new, strong, healthy collagen and for you to see the outer effects of this.
Treatment Aftercare
It is important to wear a sunscreen daily and use appropriate at-home skincare products in order to maximise the effects of your microneedling treatment. The team are here to help guide you with this and you can find out more information regarding skincare here.
Microneedling treatments can be repeated until you achieve the desired results.
For collagen induction and anti-ageing treatment, The Dr Jenni Clinic recommends an initial 3 treatments, with a minimum time of 4 weeks between treatments.
For scar reduction, an average of 6 treatments are recommended for a noticeable improvement.
