The Menopause

Most women experience the menopause around the age of 45 to 55, although it can happen earlier. It is as a result of changing hormones. The perimenopause is used to describe the time when you experience symptoms of the menopause but you still get your periods.

Menopause and perimenopause can cause symptoms like anxiety, mood swings, brain fog, hot flushes and irregular periods. These symptoms can start years before your periods stop and carry on afterwards. The symptoms can be quite severe and can have a detrimental impact on your day to day life including relationships and work.

Women

You may experience some of the following symptoms:

  • hot flushes, when you have sudden feelings of hot or cold in your face, neck and chest which can make you dizzy
  • difficulty sleeping, which may be a result of night sweats and make you feel tired and irritable during the day
  • palpitations, when your heartbeats suddenly become more noticeable
  • headaches and migraines that are worse than usual
  • muscle aches and joint pains
  • changed body shape and weight gain
  • skin changes including dry and itchy skin
  • reduced sex drive
  • vaginal dryness and pain, itching or discomfort during sex
  • recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs)

You don’t have to suffer with this changing time in your life, and with The Dr Jenni Clinic you certainly don’t have to do it alone.

How can The Dr Jenni Clinic help?

Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) is the main treatment of symptoms for the menopause as the key is to rebalance your low hormone levels. Our specialist GPs find that HRT is safe and effective to use and they have a large array of medications that can be prescribed. This includes in the form of patches, sprays, creams and tablets.

The main benefit of HRT is that it can help relieve most menopause and perimenopause symptoms, including hot flushes, brain fog, joint pains, mood swings and vaginal dryness.

Hot flushes or night sweats often improve within a few weeks. Other symptoms like mood changes and vaginal dryness can take a few months to improve.

Taking HRT can also reduce your risk of hormone-related health problems including osteoporosis and heart disease.

Your appointment

The Dr Jenni Clinic Women’s Health and Hormones appointments are up to 45 minutes long, with follow-up appointments of up to 30 minutes. Our Doctors will take the time to listen to your specific symptoms and concerns. They will advise and arrange any testing that may be beneficial, and ultimately they will utilise their expertise to prescribe HRT specifically suited to you.

If the prescribing of HRT is suitable for you, we provide a repeat prescription service where your medication is delivered directly to your house from our pharmacy.
