Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy

For the removal of skin lesions including skin tags, warty lesions, and pigmentation caused by sun damage.

What is Cryotherapy?

Cryotherapy, sometimes called ‘cold therapy’ or ‘freeze therapy’, is a quick, effective treatment for removing benign (non-cancerous) skin lesions. By exposing the lesion to extremely cold temperatures for a few seconds, we can remove or reduce it without damaging the surrounding skin.

Because this is a doctor-led service, we will always assess your skin first to ensure the lesion is not suspicious before any treatment is carried out.

Cryotherapy can be used to treat:

  • Skin tags
  • Warts (including seborrhoeic warts)
  • Pigmentation from sun damage (solar lentigines)
  • Pre-cancerous skin lesions
  • Milia

The Treatment

At The Dr Jenni Clinic, we use the innovative Hydrozid® device: a precise, non-surgical cryotherapy tool that delivers a fine jet of cold to the targeted area. This method allows us to treat lesions quickly, accurately, and without harming the surrounding healthy tissue.

During your appointment, you will be examined by a fully qualified medical doctor or nurse. On occasion, we have diagnosed skin cancers or pre-cancerous lesions during these checks, even when they were not the reason for your visit.

Important: Some lesions, especially stubborn ones, may require more than one treatment to achieve the desired result. We will discuss this with you during your initial appointment so you know what to expect.

This treatment is provided by the following members of our team: Dr Naomi, Dr Jenni, Nurse Jules, Nurse Rachel and Alesia.

Does cryotherapy hurt?

Most people describe a short burst of cold and mild discomfort, similar to holding an ice cube against your skin. No local anaesthetic or numbing cream is needed.

What to expect after your treatment

After treatment, the area will usually form a small scab that naturally falls off within a few days. The final results are typically visible 10–14 days later.

There is no need to cover the affected area unless it catches/rubs.

We will book a review appointment for you to check the healing and ensure you’re happy with the outcome.
