The subject of menopause and HRT has once again hit the headlines with the revelation that Newson Health – a well-known menopause clinic – is the subject of a BBC Panorama investigation.
Read the BBC news article, TV menopause doctor concerns probed by watchdog.
This will undoubtedly cause concern to the many women currently having treatment with them.
What is Newson Health Being Investigated For?
The scrutiny surrounds over-prescribing of hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Information obtained by BBC Panorama suggests that over a dozen patients who attended Newson Health Clinics have been affected. These are being followed up to understand if there are any risks to people using the service and whether further action is warranted.
It appears that former doctors who worked for Newson Clinics have also raised concerns.
Is The Menopause Company & The Dr Jenni Clinic Altering Their Treatments as a Response?
We want to assure everyone that safety and strict adherence to treatment protocols is at the core of what we do and always has been. Dr Naomi is a member of the British Menopause Society (BMS) and has – and continues to – undertake extensive, recognised training in this specialist field, regularly reporting back with all the latest medical guidance and advice. Our doctors carry out strategic clinical professional development in both general health and their specialist fields. This includes an immediate response to any regulatory body prescribing changes. All of our practice is within BMS and NICE guidelines.
The BBC news article, while only just making headlines, includes information about HRT safety alerts. It mentions that BMS and other bodies, including the Royal College of GPs, issued a joint safety alert about high doses of oestrogen. This alert was made nearly 18 months ago (on 03 April 2023) and was adopted into The Menopause Company’s protocols immediately. You’ll also see we let everyone know this on our social channels, as giving you all the latest information when it comes to medicine is important to us.
We hope that this goes some way to alleviating any concerns our patients may have – and, indeed, any women undergoing menopause care who are thinking of moving to us from other providers.
As always, The Menopause Company, Dr Naomi, Dr Jenni and the whole clinic team remain here to support you and answer any questions.
