“I slept for eight hours, but I still feel exhausted.” It’s something we hear all the time.
When most people think about sleep, they think about the number of hours they’re getting. But good sleep isn’t simply about how long you’re in bed. It’s about whether your sleep is actually restorative. Do you wake feeling refreshed? Do you have the energy, focus and resilience to get through your day? Or are you dragging yourself through the morning wondering why you’re still so tired?
If you’re lying awake at night, waking repeatedly, struggling to switch your mind off, or waking exhausted despite spending enough time in bed, you’re certainly not alone.
Sleep problems are incredibly common, particularly during times of stress, hormonal change, perimenopause and menopause, with ADHD, or when life simply feels busy and overwhelming. Yet poor sleep is often dismissed as something we should just put up with.
We don’t believe that. That’s why I’ve introduced our Sleep & Recovery Service at The Dr Jenni Clinic.
Sleep Affects Everything
Sleep sits at the foundation of almost every aspect of health. When sleep is poor, it can affect concentration, memory, mood, energy levels, motivation and emotional resilience. It can make it harder to exercise, harder to make healthy food choices and harder to cope with everyday stress. Over time, poor sleep can also impact physical health, including weight, blood pressure and overall wellbeing.
The problem is that there is rarely a single cause. For one person it may be stress and anxiety. For another it may be hormonal changes, ADHD, sleep apnoea, medication side effects or simply habits that have gradually developed over time. That’s why a personalised approach matters.
Looking Beyond the Sleep Itself
At The Dr Jenni Clinic, we don’t believe in handing out generic sleep advice and hoping for the best. Instead, we take the time to understand you.
During your assessment, we’ll explore your sleep patterns, daily routine, lifestyle, health history and any factors that may be contributing to poor-quality sleep. We look at the bigger picture because sleep doesn’t happen in isolation.
We’ll discuss questions such as:
- Do you struggle to fall asleep?
- Do you wake repeatedly throughout the night?
- Are you waking too early and unable to get back to sleep?
- Does your mind race when your head hits the pillow?
- Do you snore, wake feeling unrefreshed or struggle with daytime fatigue?
- Could hormones, ADHD, stress, anxiety or an underlying health condition be playing a role?
By understanding what’s really driving the problem, we can create a plan that’s tailored specifically to you.
What Your Assessment Includes
Your initial appointment includes a full one-hour consultation with one of our doctors, allowing plenty of time to explore your concerns properly.
Together we’ll review:
- Your current sleep patterns and routines
- Lifestyle factors that may be affecting sleep
- Stress levels and emotional wellbeing
- Hormonal influences including perimenopause and menopause
- ADHD-related sleep challenges
- Risk factors for sleep apnoea and other sleep disorders
- Current medications and medical history
You’ll leave with a personalised plan containing practical, realistic recommendations designed to fit into your life.
Depending on your individual circumstances, this may include sleep optimisation strategies, behavioural techniques, lifestyle adjustments, prescribed medication/s and supplements to take, further investigations or recommendations for additional support.
Recovery Matters Too
What makes this service different is that we’re interested in recovery, not just sleep.
Sleep is one part of the picture, but true recovery also involves understanding how your body and brain recharge, how stress affects you, and what support you need to function at your best. Our aim isn’t simply to help you spend more time asleep. It’s to help you feel better during the day. Because that’s what really matters.
Imagine Waking Up Feeling Like Yourself Again
Many people are surprised by the difference better sleep can make.
Improved energy. Better concentration. A more stable mood. Greater resilience. More motivation. Feeling more like yourself again. Sleep may seem simple, but when it’s not working properly it can affect every corner of life.
If you’ve been struggling for a while and finding that things aren’t improving on their own, it may be time to take a closer look.
Take the First Step
You don’t have to keep battling through exhaustion and hoping things will improve by themselves. Our Sleep & Recovery Service is designed to help you understand what’s happening, identify the factors affecting your sleep, and create a realistic plan that supports both better nights and better days. Because sleep isn’t a luxury. It’s one of the most important investments you can make in your health.
